HOUSTON MAYOR PRO TEM ANGERS INDIANS
April 9, 2007
Susan Bates

Mike Berry, Mayor Pro Tem of Houston, three- term city councilman, real estate agent, holder of many cool law degrees and host of "Talk Radio 950 KPRC", went out of his way to insult Native Americans on his March 27 broadcast.

According to a transcript of his remarks, Berry said, "We need to stop wasting all this time and energy apologizing to the American Indians, which we continue to do .....with incredible resources from our Treasury. Our entire Department of the Interior, practically, is the Department of Indian Affairs."

Berry said, "We continue to give land you know, at the Grand Canyon this group that got a private developer to come in and put this $30 million glass Skywalk out over the Grand Canyon, which I will go and see, I admit it, as tacky as it is why are we still giving Indians exclusive rights to gamble, exclusive rights to print money, which is also known as a casino?"

Mayor Berry, who boasts that he has read the treaties involving American Indians said, "..... the treaty involved land and sovereignty. It did not require that we continue to pay for education. It did not require welfare programs. It did not necessarily mean we had to grant them casino licenses ... He further stated that "Indians are conquered People and the US doesn't continue to give aid to the Germans, Italians and Japanese, "because they sit around whining about a war (they lost) 200 years ago."

For the record, not all Indian tribes were conquered People. As a Chickamauga, I am proud to be a descendant of those who followed Dragging Canoe and to this day we have never surrendered. And while Mr.. Berry probably made those remarks to draw more attention to himself, it is sad to think of the terrible awakening which is coming at lightening speed to him and his kind.

While strength in numbers coupled with the willingness to murder, rape and pillage in the name of God and Manifest Destiny, brought wealth, land and power to a few at the cost of misery for the masses, this white superiority complex will soon be coming to an end.

Indigenous People understand the law of Balance. Some call it Karma, some know it as "what goes 'round comes 'round." The Red People are Caretakers of this hemisphere and our prophecies tell us that soon we will get our lands back. No amount of prayers or money will stop the coming Earth Changes. Calling it Global Warming and urging people to conserve, reduce and reuse is too little, too late.

Creator has a plan. We are coming to the end of an Age. Those who used His Name to feed their own greed, as well as those who followed blindly along, will soon have to pay the piper.

It is written.

"The Last Resort"
Words and Music by the "Eagles"

She came from Providence,
the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea

She heard about a place people were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way,
and how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere
to the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars,
out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all,
what it's like up there
And they called it paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
while the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down
Across the desert
through the canyons of the coast, to
the Malibu
Where the pretty people play,
hungry for power
to light their neon way
and give them things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land,
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus,
people bought 'em
And they called it paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind
and sail to Lahaina
just like the missionaries did, so many years ago
They even brought a neon sign: "Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here

We satisfy our endless needs and
justify our bloody deeds,
in the name of destiny and the name
of God

And you can see them there,
On Sunday morning
They stand up and sing about
what it's like up there
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye
