CHRISTMAS COLUMN 2007 December 19, 2007 Susan Bates

It's Christmas time once again, the time we pray for peace on earth. But once again the hope of peace is shattered by wars and man's inhumanity towards others. When will we learn that peace is just a choice. The Light shines all around us. Why do we insist on clinging to the Darkness? There are good people in every walk of life. Even though we may have different names for the Creator and have different traditions to express our faith, all paths lead to the Light. Different ceremonies and traditions were given to each tribe of man by Creator to fulfill the Great Law of Love, not to exercise power over others.. But instead of uniting us, our traditions seem to separate us. We pray in churches, in temples and mosques, at the Fire and in the wilderness. We go on vision quests, sun dances, and pilgrimages, and come away with the feeling that our beliefs are the only ones that are right. Our egos tell us that God speaks solely to us - that only we are the chosen ones. For thousands of years, mankind has ridden roughshod over the Earth and each other. Kingdoms have risen and fallen, titles and deeds exchanged. Our Mother Earth has been polluted, prostituted and abused. But the time is very near when the Divine Laws will be fulfilled and Her sacredness will be reinstated. Nothing or no one can stop it. Whether you're waiting for the return of the Jaguar, Quetzlcotl, White Buffalo Calf Women or Jesus, the Light of Freedom is on it's way. And those who are ready will greet it as One. Elmer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and teacher. He did his best to keep the old ways of the Cherokee alive. His gentle wit and storehouse of knowledge will be missed. Elmer left on December 7th, after a hard fought battle with diabetes. His Circle is completed. Rest Well, Dear Friend.
