*TRUE FRIEND and PARTNER

It's a cold October Day in my cabin.
In the big horn mountains.
As I set watching my trapping partner.
She is in the cot trying to have her puppies.
She has one white and black one like her.
Then a black and white one.
I start to open the door to go and check my line.
She comes to the door.
To come along but returns to the cot.
And picks up the black and white one.
And comes to the door.
And does the same thing with the white and black one.
A true friend and partner.

*THE DEATH

As I set on my majestic horse.
And watch as a evil.
Spirit sends a hot pace of lead into the souls.
Of his brothers an sisters.
For what.
As his brothers an sisters.
And all his four fathers.
Have saved.
Saved the lives of the ones.
That are taken the lives.
Of his loved ones.
May the souls of the wild horses takers.
Have no peace.
The wild horses will.
Hound there souls forever.
Art Giles

*GRANDFATHER

Oh great spirit.
Let me walk with you.
Across the land.
Where my.
Grand father had done.
Across this great land.
Where the buffalo once did.
Now we most all look back on.
This land that know one walks on.

SPIRIT RIDERS

Looking across the buffalo grass.
I hear the spirit riders chanting to the west.
To the north. east and south.
I look across the buffalo grass.
There's no spirit riders chanting.
As the spirit riders have lost the right to chant.
The real elder spirit riders will chant for ever.
Across the buffalo grass.

This poem was written when I saw a lone Buffalo bull on the side of a hill in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming.-Art Giles

WHEN THE SPIRITS CRY

When the spirits cry.
The spirits make the rivers rise.
When the spirits cry hard the lakes rise.
And gives life to fish, crawfish, clams
and turtles.
When the spirits cry they give life.
Art Giles 8-6-95**

THE MAJESTIC GHOST

Listen to the great spirit
The wind as it blows.
Through the lodge pole pine.
Listen to the great spirit.
The wind as it moves
Through the meadow grass.
Listen to the great spirit
The wind as it blows
Down the valley;
Its like a majestic ghost.
The great spirit the wind.
Art Giles 8-6-95**

SPIRIT MOUNTAIN

As I stand by spirit mountain.
I can see the spirits
Looking at the four winds.
For the buffalo.
But it can not see them.
The spirit of the mountain hunts the plains.
For the buffalo.
The mountain wind carries the spirit back.
The spirit calls to the deer, antelope,
goats and sheep.
The buffalo are gone for ever.
Spirit mountain must watch over
the rest for ever.
 Art Giles 2-20-97**

THETORCHSHEMAN

Watch as torch boy
Raises his torch above
The tree line in the east.
Watch as torch boy raises
Higher and touches the tree tops.
Watch as torch boy touches the Meadows
In the high mountains.
Watch as torch boy touches every
Living soul to bring life.
Art Giles 8-6-95**

THE SPIRIT OF THE WIND

The wind comes out of the north,
Like an unseen spirit.
The sun shines like
A spirit that is hot.
The rain comes down
like a spirit that is crying.
From the three spirits
Above comes the spirit of life.
So you can see how
The spirits have been.
On this day.
Art Giles 8-6-95**

GRAY SPIRIT

As I set on a rock.
Near the edge of the forest.
I see a gray spirit moving in the forest.
Then I move a little.
I see two more spirits moving.
Through the forest.
One white and one dark gray.
These are the spirits of the gray wolfe.
That are long gone.
Due to the white man.
The gray spirits lurk.
In the forest for ever.
Art Giles 4-9-97**

THE LAST SCREAM OF A TAN SPIRIT

As I set on my horse.
I look out across the meadow.
I see the tan spirit moving near.
the edge of the meadow.
The tan spirit stops.
And sets and screams.
Is this a live tan spirit.
Or one my mind would like to see.
The horse starts prancing.
 Art Giles 5-23-97**

THE DEATH

As I set on my majestic horse.
And watch as an evil.
Spirit sends a hot pace of lead into the souls.
Of his brothers an sisters.
For what.
As his brothers an sisters.
And all us four fathers.
Have saved.
Saved the lives of the ones.
That are taken the lives.
Of his loved ones.
May the soles of the wild horses takers.
Have no peace.
The wild horses will.
Hound their souls forever.
