evidence of them being married living in Arkansas in 1880, listing my

Comments:First of all I want to say I respect your
wishes for people to not send all the emails to you personally. Second of all,
I am very excited about your site only because it might help me find my lost
heritage. I know that I come from Native American heritage, but my great great
grandmother did not get on the roll. Her name was Rebecca Keyes Mitchell. I
can find her in the late 1860's census, but she is listed as white. I know for
a fact that she was native American, and that she owned land in Arkansas. But
I can find no record of her before this, she would have been born around 1820,
could you please tell me is there a way I can track her? It's possible that
she was born in Tennessee. My grandmother died last year and she was the last
person that could give me any info. She remembers seeing pictures of her
relatives dressed in Native American dress, but another relative got the
pictures and I dont know what has happened to them. Please give me some info,
my mom thinks they were Choctaw, but I was under the impression they were
Chicasaw, but we really don't know.

descriptions of native american society, religion, etc. I myself have made a
16 inch drum with a natural die of black walnut. My interest lies in many of
the clothing and other ways and artifacts of native americans. I would like to
see more on the clothing worn by native americans and on the tools used in
there everyday life. I noticed that not many representations of the ways men
clothed themselves was given here and of the tools made of bone and wood like
the primitive bow. So far the site has a lot going for it but I would like to
give you some links that I have found in my many long walks through ciber
space. **(We do not allow links in the GuestBook-if you want to submit

encountered on the internet. It does create a great deal of enthusiam from the
public, which can be somewhat harmful to the preservation of
historic/prehistoric sites across the Americas. Having a small piece of the
Earth and history can be very healing. Collecting ancient objects from the
earth can be spiritualy dangerous and illegal. You may want to press this

recently purchased a Blackfoot Assinaboine Dance Staff at a little shop in
Hemet, Ca. The staff is leather and beaded and it is trimmed with white horse
hair, leather strips, buffalo fur, elk hooves, french style bells and a molded
eagle skull. It feels very special when I hold it and the sound made from the
hooves and bells is delightful. I only know that it was created by an
Blackfoot artist, who lives somewhere on the American/Canadian border. I would
like to know who made it an more about him. If you could kindly help, I would
be very grateful. Thank you so much and again, your site is very special. Best

Comments:I entered "Fool's Crow" into my search engine. I
wanted to remember him, and hear his wisdom and way again. I had a teacher
once who started me on my spiritual path, and connected me to the directions.
I lost my way for awhile, and reading a book on Fool's Crow, helped me
reconnect to the directions and remember my healing purpose in being here. I
currently practice an Asian method of self healing, and healing others, but
always include a prayer to Fool's Crow, thanking him for showing me my path
again, reminding me of my relationship to the directions, and reinforcing the
right way to work with the energy. Thank you for honoring him on this sight,
and giving me this moment to remember, and pay respects again.

the pictures that you have on it...they are so beautiful. I am writing bcause
I have some Cherokee/Sioux heritage. I saw your website for "Nana"...we called
my maternal grandmother by this name. What is ironic is my Grand Niece, Azure
who will be 2 in March, calls here mother, my niece Erin, this name and my
niece did not know where it came from and I told her I as well as her Mother,
she and my son, her cousin, called her that name...I would love to receive
more history on "Nana" from the Native American History...also, I resent the
term "Indian Summer" why isn't it called Native American Summer or something
else like end of Summer Heat Wave...thank you

your spirit. Those are what make you the person you are. My grandmothers

american issues. My grandson lives on the pineridge reservation. Also an
internet test that I took said that the representative that closest matched my
views was Ben Whitehorse Campbell. I have no interest in religions that were
created by prophets. I realize that there are areas where the native americans
were more atuned to natures ways than our society has evolved to. Good job of
recognizing the good in past and present native americans. James

glad this website is available), I really wanted to send an e-mail but I want
to respect the Authors request to address it to the guestbook instead. My
problem is that my Grandmother told me that her Grandmother was a Tackawanna
(SP?) Indian and I have never found any information on this tribe. My
Grandmother was very good about these things but I thought maybe I heard her
wrong until I saw a Tackawanna Street in Northeast Philadelphia and I feel
that I was being told that I didn't hear her wrong. Do you know anything about
this tribe, do they use another name? They would have been in West Virgina
around the turn of the century. Please let me know. I appreciate any
information. Thank you.

has a question about the "Tree of Peace". We would like to know if there is
any correlation between there originally being five tribes in the Iroquois
League and the characteristic five needles of the White Pine. If you are aware
of a link betwwen the two we would love to receive an email confirming our
hypothesis that the five needle bundle symbolized five tribes.

Comments:I purchased a bear shield, that I think is
old, but people who have looked at photos, made comments ranging from it is a
"Brewer" replica, or a hippy creation from the 70's, and a Ute medicine man
indicated it was a late 19th century Ute bear clan shield. He had a story to
explain the images. Can anyone direct me to someone who can help me figure out
what it is? Thanks Hank

Comments:Very educational to those of us who desire a
better understanding of what it means for these people to be Native American.
Those of us who respect difference between the cultures and who desire to see
peace grow in the hearts of all peoples. What draws me near the Native
American Peoples is their deep spirituality because I too am spiritual. I love
nature and all creatures placed upon this earth.I feel that Native Americans
can teach me so much, not that I wish to be or become Native American because
I'll never be, I am who I am and respect who I am, but their ways are lessons
to better understanding and I respect them for who they are...in my heart of
hearts though, I am Native American...in my heart.:)

Comments:12Sept.2003- I recently found a good black and
white photo in my fathers Chilocco Indian School papers from 1911, the name on
the reverse side of the 5x7 photo is "Hollow Horn Bear", he is mounted on a
horse with headdress & furled flag with battle ribbons, several men are
standing around with two soldiers in the background. The rider the subject of
the photo certainly looks "Chief-Like" in appearance. Could this be the Chief
Hollow Horn? The mounted rider has a large buckskin sack tied on the side of
his horse that appears to have the same beaded design that appears in the
photo of your website. My father is 93 years of age and is a Creek American
Indian. I wonder if Chief Hollow Horn Bear's Tribe would like to have an
enlarged copy of this photo? Apparently it was taken in Oklahoma at Chilocco
Indian School circa 1911. Sincerely, M.E. Moore,Major(ret.)

Based English Alphabet system is necessarily the best option for Orginal
Americans. Assuming Sioux have not eveolved one of their own, below is a link
to a modern alphabet used by 25% of Punjabi Indians ( India) which can be
adapted to your grammer needs, by altering sounds and some rules to fit your
language. Please consider and let me know. If their are other tribes that may
make use of it,please pass on, and tell them to contact me for any assitence.

Comments:In a few weeks I'll be driving two of my sisters
and Mother to Arizona for a yearly poster placement. My youngest sister gave
me my first experience in Native American culture before she disappeared 14
years ago in Phoenix. I have come to love the music and dance as much as she
did. I was searching for sites that might list nightly dance and music on our
way out. My sisters have never been, and I want them to see and hear the
beauty also. I came across your site by accident. It is wonderful. Thank you.

Comments:It is a beautiful and peaceful site. Thank You.
The last few days I have been finding many feathers a day ranging from five to
eleven. I am uncertain what type of feather it is? I am thinking that it is
pigeo because I live in the city. However, I have not seen or heard any
evidence of pigeons. Given the fact that I am working with animal totem
reconnecting with my totems especially owls, I would appreciate if you or
someone else can direct me to a web site or otherwise where I may find a way
to determine what type of gift I am being blessed with. Have a peaceful and
blessed evening.

Comments:I hope this email finds everyone healthy and
happy. I wish to learn The Grandfather's Language Algonquin [with R-Dialect]-
as this was the original language spoken by the Tankiteke Tribe of SouthWest
CT, USA. Unfortunately, [akin to the history of all tribes,] due to territory
disputes and such the Tankiteke's /Massebesic/Metoac were disbanded and melted
into neighboring tribes and/or were grouped into the Wappinger Indians. I was
born in Stamford, CT. originally Rippowam. An Elder I knew as a child from
Pound Ridge, NY, encouraged me to seek out and feel my way through my life
journey. I instead opted for a more modern way until now. I am married now and
have three sons 8, 5 and 2 and feeling the need to be connected much more.
Lately, I've come to a crossroads and I sincerely wish to educate myself and
complete my personal journey- through recovery of tribal traditions, learning
the language of Tankiteke Ancestors [I understand that, that specific dialect
/language may be extinct, and my heart is very heavy with that thought], but
I'm determined to learn the core/base Algonquin Language. am also searching my
local area, for assistance. Although, to my knowledge, the majority of Native
Americans that are accessible here, in southern eastern/western CT, are from
the Pequot/Mohegan Tribes--I am happy for their success and wish only joyful
light from one soul to another, they do not speak Algonquin R Dialect. There
are a few Paugussett Indians in CT. and I am grateful for all they do to help
educate and restore tribal traditions but I am finding it difficult to find
someone who speaks fluently Algonquin. Any guidance you can share with me
regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated. Maggie.
