i would like to say that the website is certainly intriquing .........there is alot to explore. The art work is beautiful and I look forward to reading more ...... Some of the comments were abit hard for me to understand as I'm from a different part in the world .....and I think my limited experiences with our indigenous people made me see some parallels in their plight and that of the indian nations.......that doesn't mean I agree on everything that is said as I need to become more educated and learn more to comment......

I had hoped to find information or contacts to find out about the Cheowa people. I'm not sure how it should be spelled in English, but the name sounds like: CHEE-o-wa. I have been looking for them for several years and have very little progress so far. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

first of all I am a black woman living in america and I have always admired people of color other than my own race. I believe native americans living across the United States and in Canada, are some of the most beautiful people on this planet. The entire culture should be more present, meaning by me living in Chcago, I did not see my first true native American until I visited Wisconsin about nine years ago, and his features were breath taking. In this man I saw all that use to be. In this man I saw what should have been, and in this man, I saw the dignity, pride and the spirit that was stolen so long ago. I read all the books I can find on the culture, but I always look for more. I love the dresses and the stories, and I would love to see more people of color in the public eye, not just black people, but people who deserve to be there....native Americans...

Many thank for sharing your lives with me. I am from north wales, GB. and have, in my own small way, been trying to learn somthing of your very beautiful beadwork. After learning how to make some very basic beaded amulet purses, I am aware that the stitches I use must have a tribal history. I would guess that specific tribal groups had their own distinct stitching and would dearly love to be able to attribute my work to it's rightful owners. Have you any suggestions as to where I might find the information that I need. I thank you for taking the time to read this email and eagerly await the possibility of your reply. Respectfuly yours Ann

Great Website- I liked the detail and the information is very welcomed, especially for non-NA like me. I was raised in Montana and have always had a fascination with Native American history and issues. I have read Catlin and L.V. McWhorter and a number of other historians and would appreciate any suggestions of other authors you think are relevent. Also, I am thinking of taking my girlfreind to a pow wow in Montana this summer to introduce her to NA culture (I've been to a couple) and would like to know if there are any Sioux powwows going on in July or August. Any info is greatly appreciated Thanks again

i think your poems were great if only everyone could hear the words to them and know the meaning of what it really is on the inside not on the outside see now everyone thinks im just a fatty but really some people see my inside of goodness and thats where it all goes through to being me! but today i was sitting inside looking outside out of our glass door watching my brother and dad practice football and while i was looking a white dove just flew right at the door and started walking on the porch looking at me and i picked it up and it just looked at me with peacfulness and didnt care what i done to it and i just let it go and it flew peacfully through the sky like it was a gift sent from god!

I have been told that my mothers family originated from a native american tribe. my mother believed that this name was gornese. But after i could not find any information under this name i presumed that the spelling must be wrong. After looking at the alternative tribal names on your site i found a tribe called 'Ganawese' and wondered that perhaps this may be the right spelling! do you have any more information about this particular tribe? if so please could you email me at - n1ght_angel20@hotmail.com or write to me at 21 Durham Close, Bracebridge Heath, Lincolnshire, England, LN4 2TN I would be very greatful as to any help you could give me to help me find the roots of my ancestry as it is important for me to know were i came from in order to know who i am, at this moment in time i feel like a lost soul trying to find its body and i feel that nowing were i came from will help me find myself. many thanks Tonya

I come to your site from a nontraditional way. The name Geronimo was given to my first puppy which I love. He is quite an unusual dog that I love very much. He evidentally was well named since he has survived many mishaps the most notable being the time he jumped out of my moving car and was eventually rescued 24 hours later. We have come to love him and the name. Currently we are setting up a small business that will initially design web pages. I wanted to name it Geronimo xxx but after researching found the name well overused. Now I would like to use the real name (i.e. Goyathlay). However, I am not sure how to pronounce the name. Can you give my any direction. Thanks. Pat Pierson My puppy has a website. It is called www.geronimoman.com.

This is a very helpful website. The map makes it clear were groups live and the language listing is the most accurate. I was recently told by a suposed expert at a university her in Sydney Australia (where I now live - the rest of the family is in Western Maine) that Abnaki people did not speak Algonquian. I wonder if this work particularly the map is available for purchase in a printed form. It was only a few years ago that my siblings and I were told we had a connection with Abnaki people through my mother. She was dying and I was over 50 at the time. I am trying to work out what all this means for me. I suspect there are a lot of "searchers" like myself out there. Thank you for your work. Sincerely, Margaret Archer Herbert

Hello! This site is so unique, artistic, and creative - full of info and opportunities to express thoughts, art, history, and truly exalt the downcast of the indigenous peoples. Thank you for your time, effort, and talents being used in this manner. We must hold fast faith in our Lord God - creator of us - to sustain us during these times - and to utilize the energies from our shocked consciences as to the state of affairs of our people to enable each other to stand - by helping one another as we can - to stand in faith like our ancestors - until our spirit is released from this physical realm.

Hi, I am so excited about finding your website. I have only recently begun to exlore the Native American history and present. My partner, adopted at five, just found out 3 years ago that she is Apache/Cherokee. We hired a private investigator to find her birth family. She is an artist here in Gulfport, Florida. I recently built a website to display her artwork. She is very excited about finding her heritage. May I please put a link to your wonderful site on her site. It would be an honor to have a site that is so into the knowledge of being...who we are. Please visit our site and let me know if we may link to yours. www.lildeer.com Thank you, Jean Wallace

Thank you for putting together this website . Many good artists have really been given spiritual wisdom with expressing their inner vision in an external way in which appears to replicate their meanings and messages. I have cared for over 40 children over a 20 year span. Some childrens culture is that of the First Nations and I am curious if some of these artists are of First Nations heritage . If this is indicated on your site excuse my ignorance for not finding this information and if it is not on the site I would be curious to know which artist is Native American and /or First Nations . The reason I am curious the children have asked me this and I am inquiring for them and also for myself. Thankyou Sincerely Barb

To All, I am grateful to learn of my American Indian heritage. (This is very recent news for me.) If anyone can give me direction in an effort to know more, please email. I would be thrilled to respond. In my heart, I knew that the picture I had of my heritage was incomplete. I am so pleased that I am finally learning what I have felt for a lifetime. I feel a new sense of pride. Sincerely and with heartfelt gratitude, Susan

I Have always watched you in your work. I think we need more people that think of helping others like you do. I had a friend who is Mohawk and he bought things to me that I never saw, the beauty of the earth and the animals and the people around us, I think we all need to see this but I don't see it in the people in general. When I went to Colorado the first time I didn't want to come home, it's one of the prettiest states I've been in. Is there any chance to get a picture of you and your bike. Ralph Koon, 7032 Aviation Blvd. Glen Burnie, MD. 21061 . Also if your over at Bwi Airport in Glen Burnie area. You are welcome to my home and I thank you all for doing a great job with everything going on in our country. Thank you for your time. Ralph the web site is the easiest I've ever seen to use. #1

Wonderful site, I was surprised by the amount of information. Also, I have a question about a stone. It kind of looks like an dark opal or a dark blue sapphire, one side is rounded and smooth and the other is rippled like water. It's almost transparent, and looks to have a crack it it, but it's completly smooth. I was hopeing maybe you or one of the people who posted the information on the stones could tell me what it is. Thanks for any help you can lend. I know this is alot to leave posted so I will come back at a later time and resign the guest book for you. Thanks again.

A wonderful and informative site ~ I am so glad my son forwarded your website address to me! I have just brushed the surface here tonight but have bookmarked your site so that I can back. I am part Indian from my Mother's side of the family ~ her tribe is the Penobscots in Maine. I have never registered because I do not know exactly how much Indian I am ~ I believe that my grandfather was full blooded. Perhaps you could assist me in determining this. Thank you and God Bless!

I have truljy enjoy touring you website, it is beautifuly done. I came to your site trying to get some information with regard to a mask of a "Ghost Dancer" that I have. I thought that the "Ghost Dancer " might be a type of Kachina ??? . It appears that I am incorrect, for I did not find one. If you have any information as to the history of what the Ghost Dancer is or means, I would greatly appreaciate your sharing it with me. The mask is all white with fox fur as a hat with a feather on the right side of the. It has brought me a grat deal of pleasure just looking at it. Thank You , for your time, Regards Joan Rodgers

i really enjoyed the site i have been trying to fond a site this good for several months now .. im am a collector not a seller and even at a young age 28..... i am interested in the indians that lived in the area of central illinois as far as i can tell of the late woodland and missississippian period it was the mascouten / fox/or the kickapoo i have several nice finds sorry no fancy cameras but i have 2 that stump me ..... if you could help ill try to explain ....the first is a small flat object that fits in your hand made of limestone found near a proven kick village it has a half inch dia. hole in the middle .... the second found within 10 kmiles of first object is a 20 pound lime boulder with a wedge shaped hole in one end that gets bigger as it goes through it is flat on one side and there r working marks all over the stone if this is not a good description i can try better some other time to get a digital picture thank you for your time

Hello: Great site. Love the art resources! I noticed you had McGee's Indian Art featured, and I thought you might like to know that they have an online partner that is now showing some really GREAT examples of kachinas and pottery - and would fit really well in your showcase of fine native american art. I'm sure they wouldn't mind you using their images as you have done with the other websites, and you can contact them at: www.ancientnations.com Hope to see more Hopi pottery and kachinas make their way onto your wonderful site! Keep up the good work!

Hi! I have been looking all over for a place where I can find the meanings of individuals names. I have a friend whos Native American name is "Standing Rock". I know that it would probably be easiest to just ask her what her name means but I just dont have the guts to do that... She and I are good friends and I was just wondering if you could assist me a little by telling me what her name might mean. I have read the book "Seven Arrows" and in it the author describes the Medicine Wheel. However, the four major points on it were; North-Buffalo, South-Mouse, East-Eagle, and West-Bear. I understand that to cover all possible traits is impossible. However, I was not able to figure out what "Standing Rock" means. Please help me with this if possible! Thanks. -Eric

Wow! You've certainly done a lot of the foot work. As you know, it is so easy to get lost in cyberspace when looking for information. I haven't finished looking throughout your website but I am going back to it. Perhaps you can answer a question for me. I have been doing geneology studies about my family. I am African American but in growing up, my father spoke of us having Seminole Indian in our family. How can I find what percent Seminole Indian we are? I have a copy of my grandparent's marriage certificate that lists them as "people of color". Back in the 18th century I understand that this term was used to describe Native American people. You might know more about this and can help me in my search. My father was from Cuthbert, Georgia and his parents were also from that area and Alabama. Thank you for putting together such a wonderful website. I look forward to hearing from you with any information you might have. Sincerely, Elaine

I have a question I hope you or anyone can answer. My wife is a Natie American. From resourcing her family we have determined her to be 5/16 by blood. She is 4/16 on her father's side of the family. Her father's father was a Navajo Indian from a reservation in Northern Arizona and her mother we believe is 1/16 Creek. How does my wife go about the process of certifying her heritage in a way that is recognized by the government. Needless to say searching .gov websites has been less than productive. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. PS I enjoyed much of the website!
