WHAT IS A WANABEE?

Some may disagree, but here are my thoughts. Please read them with an open mind and heart for my words are sincere...Spirit Hawk

WANABEE......Well folks, there's a term for you that is certainly thrown around a lot. Heck, I even use it myself.

    Why???? Because they do exist!

I was asked by a friend, and I applaud her for being wise enough to ask about that which had her confused, "Just what is a WANABEE?"

She was under the sole assumption it had only to do with the amount of our Peoples blood, or the lack there of, that flows in a persons veins. Not so!

That is what some would like you to think though.

Why, because if they keep you confused then it is oh so much easier to get you to believe their other lies.

That being said, if you have no blood of The People flowing through your veins, you can still live as one of The People, believe as we do and follow our traditions, you can even be adopted into one of our Nations but realistically that is what it is.

It is foolish to claim blood that doesn't exist, so please don't insult yourself, nor us, by doing so.

But still, if your heart is pure, if you follow the true Red Road, then I don't label you a wanabee, as long as you do not exploit things for personal reasons of grandeur and claim to be more than you are.

Heck there are those with the blood of The People flowing in their veins that don't have a clue what it means to truly BE one of The People, only pretend to know, and really don't care to learn, but will try to convince you otherwise.

Though they carry the blood, they themselves are a kind of wanabees.

Yes there are full bloods that live without knowing their own Peoples ways, that I don't consider to be wanabees.

Why, because they don't pretend to be anything other than what they are, just one of The People trying to survive in this crazy world they've been forced to live in.

And they'll be the first to tell you they've lost touch with tradition.

They don't pretend to be what they're not.

For that is the true definition of Wanabee.

    Someone only pretending.

Someone who does so because it seems the popular thing to do.

Someone who says they want to learn our ways, but are too lazy to really go through the trouble to do it right.

Someone who only pretends to know things so they can impress you with false knowledge.

A person that speaks of things, as if they know, while all the while not having a clue.

Someone who wants to be "Indian" but not willing to pay the dues.

A person who is in it only for themselves and, while talking about helping our People, somehow never quite get around to actually doing so.

Who aren't even aware of the problems we face.

Someone who rather than admit they were wrong would rather keep telling things that are false, because their ego won't let them do otherwise.

Yes a wanabee is simply this....SOMEONE WHO PRETENDS!

And my friends, as long as they keep on pretending, they will always be just a WANABEE.

Now that's not too complicated, is it?
